| May I just start by saying "It was nice knowing you" lol.
At the risk of offence, I'd have to say I agree with you, although I quite like what can be termed 'hard rock'. But like everything else, there is metal, and then there is metal. Ok, confusing myself here. I like some rap like Eminem for example, but the majority of house music leaves me cold. Feel the same way about heavy metal.
Mind you, you've got to love a long haired man decked out in leather

| Stupid question from a novice but doesn't all that head banging and constant jerking of ones head hurt? Can remember seeing AC/DC as a kid and watching Angus Young go for over two hours solid and thinking by God he's going to be sore in the morning. | |

| Look metal isn't just a musical style. It's a state of mind. And if it isn't your thing then it's pretty hard to capture the appeal in words and portray it here. It's a freedom, a power, an almighty release. It ain't all about thrashing about and lyrics promoting satanic crap. Love it or hate it but there's no sitting on the fence about it. | |

| But I still don't get it :lol!:
Then again I once called Poison 'heavy metal' and had to live with the jibes and laughter for what seemed like a lifetime after.

| I'm picky but do get IT! & love some songs from bands you wouldn't expect... My tastes are eclectic to say the least though! I remember going to a club in the city one night & they were giving this cd out on the door. I looked at it & thought oh the bf *at the time* will like that! & hadn't really given metal much of a chance before that. Listened to the cd & loved it so much I ended up writing a song in there honour! *how'd have thunk it!* lol Now my tastes have broadened even further & I get it like never before. Music is a freedom of my spirit, you could say. Amen to music of all genre's :guitar:  | |

| I would have to say that I agree with Sair completely. Regards of the genre of your choice, it is all about the passion and inner emotion that your music of choice inspires within you.
I dig metal; rivet rat from way back here. However that doesn't mean I do not enjoy or appreciate other styles of music. I played cello, piano and flute for many years, and classical music still holds an important place in my heart.
Rock/Metal is simply able to transport me to another place completely and has the inate ability to capture my imagination, body and soul. It's passionate and raw, almost tribal in some extremes. It's not satanic or for those who simply can only master four basic chords as some choose to believe; it can be powerful and moving and beautiful in its simplicity.
Simply, each to their own. If everyone liked the same thing, oh what a boring old world we would all inhabit.

| Well said baby. You're one of the few chicks I know that is actually in it for the music rather than the musos. So when are you getting that butt out of retirement and back on stage where it belongs anyway lol. | |

| I know this threads been quiet a long time......but I've had many a discussion on this and similar topics. It all comes down to different strokes for different folks. It's not about what you don't get about something, it's about recognising what you do connect with Never waste time looking for the outside cause when the answer is with you - I know that sounds airy fairy, it's not meant to be. Fact is we will never be able to truly understand what someone else feels or reacts to, yet we spend so much time trying, often to the detriment of our own desires and passions. Does that make sense? I have similar discussions about paganism with people - especially when they assume that being pagan, who listens to hard rock/metal, I must be a psychpathic murderer in civilian clothing. And being pagan doesn't mean I automatically listen to any particular style of music - I'm not a new age hippy either btw And don't get me started about the association with satanism and metal Anytime you wanna tell me to and get off my soap box - feel free | |
